Today’s class featured a panel of successful professionals
from a diverse field of professions:
medicine, counseling, psychology, engineering, higher education, and administration.

The class began with each panelist introducing themself with a brief story of where they’re from and the success they now enjoy and concluded with NETWORKING among guests and students over a catered LUNCH.

Victoria Mealer-Flowers is the Student-Athlete Development Senior Manager, Community Engagement and DEI programs at Brown University networking with Central High School senior Henry Pardo and Nurisbel Santana as Alonnie Stoval joins their conversation during the networking lunch.

Engineer Yemi Onipede networks with a ‘fist bump’ with Angel and Diego Cortez while Central High School senior Chris Feliz looks to Hamid Akinfolarin, a Civil Engineer.

Doctor Yvorn Aswad, medical doctor who received his degree from UCLA and a native of South Central Los Angeles who now makes his home in Providence, Rhode Island, shares his personal story with the Central High students.

Luckson Omoaregba, the Director of Pathway Programs at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University, networks with Central High School seniors Chris Feliz and Angel.

Here’s a more complete biography of each member of our Professionals panel:

  • Hamid A. Akinfolarin is a South Providence native who obtained his degree in Civil Engineering from the University of RI. He brings with him over 10 years of experience in the industry from private, to municipal and now state level. Outside of work he is involved in event coordination amongst other activities.
 
  • Yemi Onipede is a Talent Development and URI grad, class of 2017. He currently serves as a Building Automation Project Manager. Yemi has a demonstrated history of working in the Automation and Mechanical Engineering Industry. Skilled in Commissioning, Troubleshooting, Integration/ Startup, and Programming. 
 
  • Jamall Pollock, Ph.D., serves as Brown University’s Associate Dean of the College and collaborates closely with colleagues both within and outside of the College to develop and execute cohort-based learning opportunities for students from historically marginalized identities, with a focus on men of color. Jamall obtained his Ph.D. and Master’s in Social Work from Yeshiva University and completed his undergraduate degree at Williams College. 
 
  • Yvorn Aswad, MD, Yvorn “Doc” received his MD from the UCLA/Drew Medical Education Program in Los Angeles, California. A native of South Central Los Angeles, He earned his BA in Human Biology and African and African-American Studies from Stanford University. He chose the Triple Board in order to have a comprehensive lens as a practitioner and researcher to best serve that population and found that Brown would make him not just an excellent physician-scientist, but also a happy one! In addition to his work.
 
  • Luckson Omoaregba –  Luckson is the Director of Pathway Programs at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University.  He received his Master’s in College Student Personnel at the University of Rhode Island (Go, Rhody). In his role here at AMS, he is responsible for the day-to-day functioning of the pipeline programs that seek to increase the representation of individuals from historically underrepresented groups and communities in medicine and other health-related professions.

 

  • Victoria Mealer Flowers – Victoria is the Student – Athlete Development Senior Manager of Community Engagement and DEI programs at Brown University.   Victoria has multiple Masters Degrees from the University Connecticut (Human Development and Family Studies AND Sports Management).   She was a Division 1 track athlete and team captain at the University of Connecticut.
